If you are already a little familiar with violin fingering, and musical notes, reviewing how to play by each note name can be helpful. Or if you are a parent and your student comes across a note they don't know how to play, these pictures are for you!

The following violin fingering pictures are for all B notes in first position.
B on the G string - This note is on the G String and is played with a second finger. Unless the note shows a flat symbol, it is played a whole step away from your first finger as a natural.

B flat on the G string - Place your second finger right next to your first finger on the G string.

B on the A string - This B note is played with your first finger. Unless marked with a flat symbol put your finger a whole step away from the end of the fingerboard.

B flat on the A string - Place first finger low towards scroll and end of fingerboard.

B on the E string - Using your fourth finger, reach a whole step above your third finger. Many students find playing a fourth finger difficult when first starting. As you practice and use that fourth finger it will become more flexible, strong, and able to reach the high notes.

B flat on the E string - Slide your fourth finger close to your third finger.

As a general rule of thumb, whole notes will 'feel' like they are about one inch away from each other. Half note fingers should almost be touching each other.
